Blockchain Voting Trial: A Success for Zug

The use cases that develop on Blockchain is increasing day by day, with more and more complex solutions catered to the problems that were never imagined of, Civil Records, Identity Management and even Blockchain Voting is something the technology is on the verge of changing the face of it.

Blockchain Voting trial successful in the Crypto-Valley

Zug which is also known as the Crypto-Valley has successfully implemented the first trial of the voting process through the Blockchain as a database, on June 11th the Swiss city launched an e-voting platform built on the Blockchain platform in order to show the efforts of the city as the Crypto-valley.

The voting process started from June 25th to July 1st, the campaign aimed at storing both polling information and resident’s ID on the database. Dieter Müller who is the city’s head of communications claimed that “the premiere was a success.”

With the positive results of the Blockchain Voting process, Müller said that the technical details of the voting process will be evaluated over the coming months.

A press release from the government of the city had made the following statements:

At 10:00 am on 25 June, Mayor Dolfi Müller participated with his digital ID in the first blockchain-based consultative vote in the city of Zug and opened it. The vote includes two yes / no questions and one multi-answer question. Holders of a digital ID of the city of Zug can still vote until July 1, 2018.

Furthermore, the report added:

Various other e-voting systems are also being tested in other Swiss cantons. Unlike these systems, the process of tuning in the city of Zug does not take place via a single centralized server, but spread across a blockchain on many computers. This makes the e-voting system safer and less susceptible to unnoticed manipulation. Mayor Dolfi Müller was impressed after his vote: “With decentralized e-voting, data sovereignty and transparency are the highest for those voting because of their individual comprehensibility.”

Zug is one the Crypto Haven countries where Shapeshift, Tezos, and even Ethereum have headquarters, its good to see that the government is experimenting with the technology at this level which portrays the adaptability of the central authority towards the change.
